Support - Outlook 2000 (Windows)

Follow these instructions to configure Microsoft Outlook 2000 to receive e-mail from your Extreme Internet account:


  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook.

  2. Select Tools > Accounts

  3. On the Internet Accounts panel, select the "Mail" tab.

  4. Highlight "Mail Account" and press Properties.

  5. The Mail Account Properties panel will open on the "General" tab.  Fill in the following:

    Mail Account Name:      

    Mail Account

    User Information

    Name:      enter the name you would like displayed on e-mail messages
    Organization:       enter a company name (optional)
    E-Mail Address:      enter your Extreme Internet e-mail address
    (example:  johnsmith@extremezone.com)
    Reply address:       enter your Extreme Internet e-mail address again (optional)
    Check the option "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing"

     

  6. Next, select the "Servers" tab on the Mail Account Properties panel and fill in the following:

    Server Information
    My incoming mail server is a ___ server: POP3
    Incoming mail (POP3): mailhost.extremezone.com
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): mailhost.extremezone.com

    Incoming Mail Server

    Account Name: enter your Extreme Internet User Name
    (example:  johnsmith)
    Password: enter your Extreme Internet account password
    Make sure this password is in all lowercase letters.

    You may check the option "Remember Password"

    Note: Do not select the option "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"

  7. Next, select the "Connection Tab" on the Mail Account Properties panel and fill in the following:

    Connection
    If you have a DSL connection, select: "Connect using my local area network (LAN)"
    If you have a dial-up connection, select "Connect using my phone line"

  8. Next, select the "Advanced" tab on the Mail Account Properties panel and fill in the following:

    Server port numbers
    Outgoing mail (SMTP):    25
    Incoming mail (POP3):    110

  9. Press OK to close the Mail Account Properties panel.

  10. Press Close to close the Internet Accounts panel.

Outlook is now configured to receive e-mail from your Extreme Internet account.  If you have a dedicated or DSL connection, you will automatically retrieve your e-mail from the Extreme Internet mail server when you launch Outlook.  If you have a dial-up connection, you will have to connect to the Internet first, then launch Outlook and receive your e-mail.
