Dialer Tips

You installed your software and you're having problems connecting or you connect, then get disconnected. Here are a few items you may need to check:

  • How To Check DNS Numbers
Double Click on the Microsoft Internet Explorer Icon. A "Connect To" screen will appear, select "Properties", click on "Domain Name". On this screen you can check or change the DNS numbers if needed.

DNS Numbers Are As Follows:

Primary DNS

Secondary DNS

64.140.128.10

64.140.128.11

  • Invalid Log-in
On the "Connect to" screen, make sure under "User Name" you put a capital "P" before your username. Your username is known as your log in name, screen name, and the beginning part of your e-mail address. For example: If your username is "janes" you would enter "Pjanes".

Make sure you are typing your password in lower case.

  • New Modem Changes
If you have purchased a new modem and find that you can't get connect like before, many times it could be the modem init string or the settings in your dialer needs to be changed.

Go to the dialer and choose "Properties", then choose "Modems". In the modem section, choose "Change Modems". From here, Windows will try and detect your modem if you like. If you already know the manufacturer of your modem and the com port it is located on, then select "Don't detect my modem I will select it". Follow the information on your screen.

  • Windows Didn't Detect My Modem
If you asked windows to find your modem and it didn't find it, then you will have to enter the information manually. Choose "next".

From the "Install New Modem" screen, choose your modem. On the left side of the screen choose the manufacturer and then choose the model number. Choose "next".

Choose your COM port. If you don't know what COM port your modem is on then your Modem/Computer documentation it should have the correct COM port listed in it. Choose "next" and retry your connection again.

  • Enter The Modem Information Manually
If you have done all of the above and you're still having problems, go to the Modems2.ini file located in the iexplore directory. Find the selected modem and change the modem init string to the manufacture recommended modem string. For example:
    [Standard 14400 bps Modem]
    InitString=ATE1V1
Simply change the "ATE1V1" to your modem's recommended string.
The Modems2.ini file can be located in the "iexplore directory".

  • Locating the Modems2.ini File
In Program Manager go to the File Manager located in the Main Program Group.
Double-click on the File Manager icon.
Go to the File from the menu bar and choose Search
A Search dialog box will appear
Type in the "Search For" box "modems2.ini
In the "Start From" box, enter "C:\tabletoptelephone\iexplore"
    Click ok
The Search Results window, will display the file that met the criteria. Double-click on the file and make the appropriate changes. Once completed, go to file choose save, then go back to file click on exit. Go ahead and exit out of the File Manager and try your connection again.
