Support - DSL Configuration (Windows 95 / 98 / ME)

  • Connect the DSL modem ethernet port (rj45 connector that looks like a large phone plug) to the ethernet port in the back of your computer.  Use the rj45 cable provided by Qwest for this connection.  (If you are using your own cable, make sure it is a "crossover" cable).

  • Make sure that there is power to all components, and that you have the following green lights on the DSL modem: PWR, LAN, and WAN.

  • Click on the 'Start' button, and select 'Settings.'  Next, select 'Control Panel.'

Start - Settings - Control Panel

  • From the Control Panel, double click on the 'Network' icon.

Control Panel

  • In the Network window, scroll to find the 'TCP/IP' entry that points to your network card.  If you have more than one network device, there will be an arrow indicating which TCP/IP points to which device.  If you have only one network device, then there will be only one instance of TCP/IP, which should be the correct one.  Double click on 'TCP/IP' when you have found the correct one.

Network Control Panel

  • In the TCP/IP Properties window, make sure that the settings are as follows:

    • IP Address = 'Obtain IP Address Automatically'

IP Tab

    • WINS Configuration = 'Disable WINS Resolution'

WINS Tab

    • Gateway = There should not be any gateways installed.  Remove any entries that already exist.

Gateway Tab

    • DNS Configuration = 'Enable DNS'

      • Host = ttt

      • Domain = tabletoptelephone.com

      • Primary DNS server = 64.140.128.10

      • Secondary DNS server = 64.140.128.11

DNS Tab

    • NetBIOS = No changes are needed in this area

    • Advanced = No changes are needed in this area

    • Bindings = No changes are needed in this area

    • Click 'OK' to return to the Network window.

    • Click 'OK' again to close the Network window.  If asked, restart your machine.

  • Once your machine has restarted Open your web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Netscape) and enjoy your high speed connection to the internet!
