Celebrate Earth Day with your entire family at Southwest Wildlife!
During the open house, there will be:
- Animal Encounters (encounters last approx. 10 minutes)
Meet one of our animal ambassadors and learn why they are important to our environment.
- Nature Center Tours (approx. 45-60 minutes)
You may see mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, bears, raccoons, and more, as each animal's role and importance in the ecosystem is highlighted.
- Wildlife Gardening - Children (approx. 45-60 minutes)
Discover the importance of plants to our desert ecosystem and learn the habitat needs of hummingbirds, butterflies, birds, and more by designing and planting a wildlife garden.
- Desert Gardening - Adults (approx. 45-60 minutes)
Under the guidance of a Master Gardener, learn how to attract wildlife to your backyard, conserve water by planting desert-adapted vegetation, and add some color to your landscape with desert blooms. Bring your gloves & gardening tools!
- Animal Enrichment Class (approx. 45-60 minutes)
Create enrichment items for the animals.
Stay and watch them have fun with their "toys" during the 1:30pm tour!
Family Activities (available continuously during the open house)
- Make a hummingbird feeder out of a water bottle.
- Create your own biosphere from a soda bottle.
- Turn trash into a cuddly "Litter Critter".
- Turn newspaper, flowers, and leaves into paper.
