Earth Day

Go Wild on Earth Day

 

 

Southwest Wildlife Open House
Saturday, April 26, 2008
10am - 3pm
Adults, $15
Children, $10

Celebrate Earth Day with your entire family at Southwest Wildlife!
During the open house, there will be:

  • Animal Encounters (encounters last approx. 10 minutes)
    Meet one of our animal ambassadors and learn why they are important to our environment.
  • Nature Center Tours (approx. 45-60 minutes)
    You may see mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, bears, raccoons, and more, as each animal's role and importance in the ecosystem is highlighted.
  • Wildlife Gardening - Children (approx. 45-60 minutes)
    Discover the importance of plants to our desert ecosystem and learn the habitat needs of hummingbirds, butterflies, birds, and more by designing and planting a wildlife garden.
  • Desert Gardening - Adults (approx. 45-60 minutes)
    Under the guidance of a Master Gardener, learn how to attract wildlife to your backyard, conserve water by planting desert-adapted vegetation, and add some color to your landscape with desert blooms. Bring your gloves & gardening tools!
  • Animal Enrichment Class (approx. 45-60 minutes)
    Create enrichment items for the animals.
    Stay and watch them have fun with their "toys" during the 1:30pm tour!

Family Activities (available continuously during the open house)

  • Make a hummingbird feeder out of a water bottle.
  • Create your own biosphere from a soda bottle.
  • Turn trash into a cuddly "Litter Critter".
  • Turn newspaper, flowers, and leaves into paper.

  • 2:30pm Animal Encounter

How to Help Southwest Wildlife on Earth Day

  • Coins 4 Critters
    Donate your spare change to Southwest Wildlife and help save desert critters.
  • Empties 4 Cash
    Southwest Wildlife will recycle your used ink cartridges to raise funds and reduce waste.
  • Adopt an Animal
    Special Earth Day adoptions will also be available online at www.southwestwildlife.org.

Animal - and conservation - related items will be available for purchase.
